My new iPhone 3G!
Yep finally got it. Whew. Had to wait for my contract to run out before I could get my grubby hands on my Precious. Yes… Precious. One phone to bind them, One phone to rule them all! Okay that’s enough of that. But as promised, here’s my personal iPhone 3G unboxing. About 2 months after the release. Oh well, it had to happen eventually! I also picked up a nice lil Sony Alarm Clock for myself that includes an integrated iPhone dock so I can wake up to my tunes. Sweet.
In iPhone related news: iPhone OS 2.1 is being release this Friday so keep an eye out for that. Many big fixes.
Tech Update
Wow, it’s been a crazy 2 weeks in tech since I last posted. Sorry for the delay in posting.
Google Chrome
So Google went and shocked the web a few days ago and released their own browser that they’d been working on. Google Chrome is a stellar browser, even in its beta phase. I gave it a spin and I almost want to make it my default browser. However, Chrome is not without its flaws. First of all, its freakin stable for a beta release. I have yet to crash it. Second, it is FAST. Nuff said. But finally, its missing a few key features that make popular browsers like Firefox a mainstay. Plugins – Although, Google plans to support a plugin architecture in the future, at this stage it does not have plugins. And… really that’s about it. For my needs anyway. Google Chrome is a solid first attempt at a browser and scores high on stability, speed and simplicity. Give it a go today.
Apple iPod Nanos + iPod Touch + iTunes 8
Apple Inc. this week announced a whole slew of updates to its iPods and music related software. We saw the introduction of a brand new iPod nano. Which looks a lot like the previously released 2nd gen nano. This one comes with a few tricks up its sleeve that I particularly like. One being an integrated accelerometer with the ability to detect its orientation and flip photos or video landscape or portrait accordingly. And the new nanos come with a firmware refresh which is always welcome. Having tried the old firmware on the Stumpy nano of yester-year, I’m quite happy that they’ve changed the software and added a new Genius feature. And of course, this feature that is built into the new iTunes 8, enables most new iPods to create Genuis playlists. Woot! Make sure you catch the keynote from good ol Steve himself to get the in-depth scoop on things.
